Description
The 400 series is a group of stainless steels that are magnetic and have a martensitic structure. These steels are less corrosion-resistant compared to other stainless steel grades but have good mechanical properties and can be hardened by heat treatment.
Typical grades in the 400 series include 410, 420, and 430.
410 stainless steel: This grade contains 11.5-13.5% chromium and has good corrosion resistance and high strength. It is often used in applications such as cutlery, valve parts, and pump shafts.
420 stainless steel: This grade contains 12-14% chromium and has good corrosion resistance and excellent hardness and wear resistance. It is commonly used in applications such as surgical instruments, cutlery, scissors, dental and surgical tools, and blades for industrial machinery. It is also often used in the manufacturing of valves, pump parts, and shafts.
430 stainless steel: This grade contains 16-18% chromium and has good corrosion resistance. It is commonly used in applications such as kitchen appliances, automotive trim, and decorative applications.
